Women’s Experiences with Actuarial Careers

NAWA’s Shaping Success study explores this question through the experiences of more than 3,500 college students, actuarial candidates, credentialed actuaries, and STEM professionals. The findings show how access to information, support, flexibility, visibility, and advocacy shapes women’s experiences at every stage of the actuarial career journey.

Commissioned by NAWA and conducted by C+R Research, the study was supported by the American Academy of Actuaries, the Casualty Actuarial Society, and the Society of Actuaries.

Insights to Inspire Action

The research identifies three opportunities for the profession:

  • Discover: Introduce actuarial careers earlier and show how the work makes a positive impact.

  • Persist: Help candidates continue through exams with protected study time, mentoring, community, and flexibility.

  • Advance: Strengthen visibility, sponsorship, and access to opportunities that support career growth.
